Hey guys! Squeezing this recipe in for the last few weeks of August because summer and ice cream just go hand in hand. Truth be told, I was never a huge ice cream fan growing up. Unless it was on top of a warm brownie, apple pie, or waffle…ya feel me? Eventually I came to my senses and realized that ice cream sundaes are amazing in their own right.
There’s this little shop down the block from us that makes their own ice cream and it’s so awesome I want to keep it in my freezer. But – that doesn’t sit too well with my fitness goals.
The next best option which is fairly new is to switch to Halo ice cream pints which are lower in calories & sugar, but high in protein and the volume you can eat is much larger. I do love so many of these flavors, but let’s be real, if I don’t put it in a bowl, I’m eating that whole damn thing. Also they cost about $4-5 which can add up if you’re buying 2 per week.
Recently though I’ve discovered banana nice cream. If you’re thinking this is complicated and you need fancy equipment, don’t! The base for the “ice cream” is frozen bananas with a couple tablespoons of milk (of your choosing!), blended to creamy perfection. That’s it!
The flavors, as you could imagine, are endless. For this post, I developed four flavors to get your imagination going. There’s: chocolate, cinnamon roll, strawberry, and peanut butter chocolate chip. An important tip: eat right away. The texture is not quite the same after you refreeze it.
